I actually Enjoyed it!

Thursday Run ...

Again the cold north wind was challenging me not to go.  My son asked "do you really want to go? Its so cold!"  My response "it is too easy not to go".  So I went for my run (and I use that term loosely) and my son practiced his drums :*)

I think something happened today.  I was at about 16 minutes and I thought to myself  - Hey! Im not out of breath and I think I could run longer today!  It was a new feeling for me. I have never in my life felt like that, that I could have gone on more.  It has been a struggle for me to keep going and force myself not to stop.

 I did a body check
  • my breathing check - it was good not huffing or puffing forcing myself to keep going.  -
  • arms - good
  • legs - good no pain or tightness
  • feet  - good
I looked at my watch and I was about 16 minutes.  Whew...

I was so excited

Tuesday...

Today was another yucky rainy day. I really didnt want to go out, especially with the threat of snow on the forecast I could think of several great 'excuses' to not run.  Then this little voice inside of me said, "you will feel so good if you run." So I laced on my tired shoes and headed out.

My time today was 18:34 which is relatively the same as previous runs.  I am starting slowly this is my 2nd week to be running 2k and I am gradually increasing my pace and lowering my recovery time.

When i finish my run I mark my time and then put a "star" on the calendar!  Just as an elementary school kid would look for gold stars I check and count every one.

Here is some food for thought

Saturday....

Today is the day that we will go to visit our friends and have a Thanksgiving turkey.

She will cook a turkey and a lamb (her husband is from Australia) I am bringing, fresh apple pie c/w home made lattice crust  on the top!l  fresh baked bread, and some curried veggies to spice things up abit.

I will have to watch what I eat.  I enjoy ths time of year and get great pleasure out of sitting with friends discussing 'things'.   As I get older the 'things' we discuss is much more cerebral.  Also there are many more discussions regarding lamenesses and past, and proposed surgeries.

Wondering how big a turkey to get?  This site says to allow 1 lb per person if you want a little bit of left overs.  If you want more left overs then allow 1 1/2 lbs per person.

Bon appetite...

Physio and Run

Thursday  I had to go to the physio to get my frozen shoulder treated.  She stretched and massaged my shoulder and it felt better after.  She also put on the electronic stimulation to help get my range of motion back.  http://www.doereport.com/displaymonograph.php?MID=38

Friday  - Today was a rainy and miserable day.  The kind of day that you would like to not run on.  The kind of day that you would like to say... "its too rainy to run" or "its to muddy to go out".

I had no plan to go out and to use the one of the above excuses.  Then I read http://runningover50.com/  and I thought it is just too easy not to go and besides I enjoy it specifically when Im done.

Stay tuned!

Wensday Update...

Wens Oct 7th Oct was a rainy and windy day and I really had to 'scew' up my gumption to go for a run... (and I use that term loosely!) After I did my warm up exercises and got my stop watch I headed out.  I felt like Iwanted to stopafter abot 5 minutes.  I perserviered and decided that I  up my gumption to go for a 'run'.

After  finishing I tell you I felt great.  I even set a new record for me!

Ive done some investigating and if your like me and want to run or at the very least stay or get in shape do the following:
  1. Start - .That is the biggest... just start.  Start by walking.  Then over a period of weeks work yourself up to jogging and add a few minutes every week.   Remember to check with your doctor before starting any exercise program!
  2. Repeat step 1!  Sound simple enough?
  3. Set goals...  measure your goals.  I started walking/running and now have shaved time off of my meager run of 2km.  Next step for me is to add some length.
To keep me motivated I found this great blog if your interested http://theartofrunning.wordpress.com/ to check it out.

5th Oct

Today I did my warmup and ran approx. 2 km.  This is the usual run for me and I felt really good.  The first Km is up hill and I am very happy to get to the top of the incline.  The run home is very nice to.
I was hoping that I could make it in under 19 minutes but today I was 19 minutes and 7 sec.  I was soo close!

When I finished I did my warm down exercises.

Now for eating:
Breakfast  1piece toast 1/2 tea peanut butter.
lunch
snack - ju-jubes
supper  - haven't eaten it yet.

You can see that my diet needs some work...

Well actually Im neither.

My 50th birthday is coming and i don;t like it!!  Im neither fifty or fit but I hope to be both when the time comes.

My commitment to fitness seems to wax and wane so I decided to journal my journey and share it with you.  And I hope that you will share your trials and tribulations with me!

I hope by writing this blog I will become accountable for my actions (eating properly and exercising) and have company on my road to ... being fiftynfit!!
